About The Position

The Communications Intern is a key member of the Narrative and Communications team, supporting the development and execution of content that translates our message into clear, compelling, and accessible storytelling. This role plays an important part in helping us reach and engage our target audiences, grow our digital presence, and deepen connection with our base. Working under the supervision of the Senior Narrative and Communications Director, this entry-level role is designed to develop emerging leaders by providing hands-on experience in narrative strategy, digital communications, and political education across issues within a multi-entity organization. The intern will collaborate closely with the Narrative team, the broader Political Power team, and cross-functional departments as needed. This is a learning-focused role that provides exposure to the full lifecycle of communications work, from content creation to strategy execution, while building foundational skills in digital organizing, messaging, and storytelling.

Requirements

  • Strong written communication skills and ability to adapt tone for different audiences
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Twitter/X, etc.)
  • Interest in social justice, political education, and narrative change work
  • Ability to manage time, meet deadlines, and follow through on assignments
  • Willingness to learn, receive feedback, and grow in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and communicate clearly

Responsibilities

  • Develop and draft weekly social media content that reflects the organization’s brand, voice, and narrative priorities
  • Create content that uplifts membership stories, highlights campaigns, and engages key political and cultural moments
  • Support the execution of content across platforms (e.g., Instagram, Twitter/X, TikTok, etc.) with attention to tone, audience, and format
  • Assist in maintaining a consistent and cohesive digital presence across channels
  • Collaborate with the Narrative team to align content with broader messaging strategy and campaign goals
  • Support content planning, scheduling, and basic analytics tracking to understand engagement and performance
  • Support digital campaigns that aim to grow and engage our membership base on the ground, with a focus on Central Valley
  • Assist in translating organizational priorities into accessible, action-oriented content that drives participation (events, campaigns, advocacy efforts)
  • Engage with followers and supporters across platforms in alignment with organizational values and voice, including direct communication such as DMs, comment responses
  • Help identify trends, cultural moments, and digital opportunities to strengthen narrative reach and resonance
  • Contribute to building digital strategies that center youth engagement and communities of color
  • Participate in Narrative team meetings, Political Power team spaces, and relevant cross-departmental collaborations
  • Support internal coordination across teams to ensure alignment between communications, organizing, and campaign priorities
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and values-aligned team culture
  • Participate in trainings, team activities, and organizational events to build understanding of multi-entity operations (c3/c4 alignment)
  • Complete tasks and projects in a timely manner, demonstrating reliability, accountability, and a growth-oriented mindset
  • Takes on other duties as assigned
