About The Position

Prairie Island Indian Community (PIIC) is seeking an intern for the Communications Department. Our internship opportunities provide hires with on-the-job training and experience while making important contributions to the Community on a part-time basis. This role will start June 2026 and go through September 2026, dependent on candidate’s availability.

Requirements

• Must be 16 years old or older
• Ability to work outdoors in many different weather conditions (heat, rain, wind, cold)
• Interest in learning Communications, Photography, Videography, Event Management, Graphic Design, or Sports Management.
• Successful experience working in a team setting
• Ability to maintain confidentiality

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with Dakota culture and language
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Availability on some nights and weekends throughout employment

Responsibilities

• Write and create content for Prairie Island Communication channels (Community newsletter, Smoke Signals employee newsletter, website)
• Photograph and take video of events
• Assist with digital asset management
• Assist with mailings
• Assist with administrative communications work
• Event Assistance (parades, sporting events, community gatherings)
