About The Position

Under general direction, performs professional and administrative work in the coordination and dissemination of citywide information internally and to the media and general public; creates a variety of outreach materials for projects and programs in support of communications plans and strategies; develops timely and appropriate content; acts as a resource and liaison with the city's technology staff to provide technical assistance to City officials and departments in preparation of internal and external publications and social media; and performs other related work as required.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, Political Science, or related field.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience in public relations, communications, public information, and print media.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the capabilities to perform the described job duties.
  • Possession of a valid California Class "C" driver's license.
  • Must be able to pass a police background check.
  • Prior to appointment, applicants must successfully complete a preliminary investigation of their personal history and background to determine suitability for this position with the Bakersfield Police Department.
  • Qualified candidates will be required to submit a COMPLETED Preliminary Background Questionnaire.
