About The Position

Milltown Partners advises technology companies driving change, global investors funding the future, the giants of sport and entertainment, and influential individuals on communications and policy challenges. The firm's work spans corporate and financial communications, policy and public affairs, and leadership communications, all underpinned by research-driven insights and campaigns. Milltown is also pioneering AI-enhanced advisory work, using technology to unlock insights from data at scale and speed. Consultants at Milltown are key to client work, acting as trusted advisors who shape client reputations, drive team efforts, support junior colleagues, and deputize for senior leadership. This specific role focuses on clients at the frontiers of innovation, requiring a passion for understanding and communicating complex, cutting-edge technologies like AI, quantum computing, and autonomous systems. The ideal candidate will have a proactive, investigative approach, similar to an investigative reporter, with the ability to delve deep into subjects, extrapolate insights, and effectively communicate them to media, policymakers, and technical talent.

Requirements

  • 3-6 years of communications experience, ideally in a consultancy environment, with exposure to technology clients.
  • A genuine drive to go deep into unfamiliar territory, find unique angles, and produce work grounded in real subject matter understanding.
  • Strong written and editorial skills, with the ability to produce clear, compelling, and accurate content from complex briefs without losing substance.
  • The ability to quickly grasp technically unfamiliar territory and apply that knowledge effectively.
  • Experience building advisory relationships with senior stakeholders (founders, CEOs, or other leaders) and the presence to engage confidently in those conversations.
  • Experience developing media strategies and working with journalists across tier-1 tech press and specialist outlets.
  • Experience using AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini) effectively, safely, and critically in a professional setting.
  • Collaborative instincts and a genuine commitment to contributing to an inclusive culture.
  • Intellectual curiosity to develop subject matter expertise in new areas and share that knowledge with colleagues.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in or genuine familiarity with frontier technology, AI, quantum computing, autonomous systems, or frontier science – either professionally or through self-directed engagement.
  • Experience in research, policy, developer relations, or technical content.

Responsibilities

  • Shape communications strategy by drawing on deep knowledge of channels and audiences to position clients and tell their story, translating highly technical, scientific, or regulatory subject matter into resonant narratives for both specialist and non-technical communities.
  • Work with client team leads to set strategy and priorities, build integrated communications plans, and design research briefs to ensure advice is grounded in insight.
  • Consistently push for creative solutions, including confident use of AI-enhanced approaches.
  • Advise clients by earning their trust and delivering recommendations that are understood and acted upon.
  • Produce compelling written content, drive significant communications moments (major announcements, media briefings, speeches, owned channels, events), and stay informed about client-facing issues, including regulatory developments, research papers, and the wider news agenda.
  • Use tools such as Claude, Gemini, Factiva, and Meltwater to generate insight and support complex deliverables.
  • Drive and deliver client work by managing junior colleagues, creating clear project plans, delegating effectively, and ensuring high-quality delivery.
  • Contribute to the business by applying understanding of the commercial context, contributing to internal projects, and identifying growth opportunities.
  • Experiment with and implement AI-powered workflows to improve team efficiency.
  • Build a collaborative environment by giving and receiving feedback regularly, actively seeking input from colleagues, and contributing to an inclusive culture.
