About The Position

David Zwirner seeks a full-time Communications Associate to join its New York Communications team. The Communications Associate will run day-to-day operations of the press and communications department at a moment when the boundaries between editorial, social, and institutional storytelling are dissolving. The ideal candidate understands not just how media works today, but where it's heading — and brings the writing instincts, curiosity, and organizational rigor to work effectively in that environment. Candidates must be diligent, extremely organized, and possess excellent time management and communication skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in art history, communications, journalism, or a related field.
  • 3 - 4 years of experience in communications, public relations, or a closely related role, preferably at a gallery, auction house, or PR firm.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong editing ability.
  • Genuine fluency and understanding of the current media landscape.
  • Comfortable using tools for research, reporting, and workflow efficiency, while maintaining editorial judgment.
  • Able to manage time independently, prioritize across competing deadlines, and stay organized in a fast-moving department.
  • Proactive, collaborative, and positive – equally at ease working autonomously and as part of a close-knit team.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor (via Google alerts and Meltwater), clip, and maintain the press archive across print, digital, newsletters, and emerging platforms, including Substack, podcasts, and creator-driven media alongside legacy outlets.
  • Actively maintain, research, and expand the gallery's media contact database, with a focus on independent writers and critics who are building audiences outside traditional mastheads.
  • Track the media landscape; identify new publications, platforms, and voices relevant to contemporary art and culture.
  • Oversee the press@ inbox and route requests appropriately.
  • Manage the gallery's online press room in coordination with the web team, keeping it current and useful as a journalist-facing resource.
  • Prepare internal and external media reports for gallery leadership, artists, and estates.
  • Organize press previews, including RSVPs, scheduling, and logistics.
  • Support the Communications team on exhibition campaigns across all channels.
  • Coordinate mailings of David Zwirner Books to the appropriate media contacts.
  • Collaborate across the global communications team to help streamline processes.
  • Oversee the communication department intern.
  • Ad hoc projects as needed.
