About The Position

Church World Service (CWS) is a faith-based organization transforming communities through just and sustainable responses to hunger, poverty, displacement and disaster. As part of this mission, CWS is committed to supporting immigrants and refugees around the world. The Rise Up for Refuge Campaign is a faith‑rooted, justice‑focused national movement mobilizing faith communities, advocates, and local leaders across the United States to stand in solidarity with immigrant and refugee communities. We are seeking a strategic and creative Communications & Engagement Manager to drive the campaign content strategy, elevate the campaign's public presence, equip local advocates, and deepen community partnerships across the country. This is a full‑time position expected to last at least one year, with a strong likelihood of extension.

Requirements

  • 5-8 years of experience in social impact communications, digital content, campaigns, advocacy or related fields.
  • Expertise in designing and implementing successful content campaigns across multiple platforms and formats in accordance with best practices.
  • Demonstrated skill and comfort with public speaking and presenting in front of diverse audiences.
  • Experience executing fast-paced rapid response communications.
  • Excellent writing, communication, facilitation, and relationship‑building skills.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience and comfort using the Adobe Creative Suite and Canva to create assets that can be leveraged with external audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across diverse constituencies, including faith communities and justice‑oriented organizations.
  • Commitment to immigrant and refugee rights and the mission of CWS.
  • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • At least one year of supervisory experience of staff, volunteers or contractors, preferred.
  • Record of achievement growing audience engagement and impact on digital channels.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the Rise Up for Refuge content strategy in coordination with the National Campaign Strategist to maximize engagement and audience growth.
  • Create and adapt educational resources, sharable toolkits, and advocacy materials for diverse campaign audiences.
  • Oversee web development, working alongside contract developers to build out a robust campaign website serving the needs of core audiences.
  • Manage and maintain the campaign website and digital channels, ensuring content is current and compelling.
  • Analyze content performance through qualitative and quantitative data and make recommendations to increase engagement across target audiences.
  • Explore and test new campaign styles and types of content and adapt as needed to evolving trends in social media and digital content to achieve peak performance.
  • Develop new story-based content in coordination with the CWS communications team to highlight the impact of the campaign for partners, individual supporters, advocates, and prospective donors.
  • Identify opportunities to amplify stories of impact from the CWS network and faith partners to drive public engagement and awareness.
  • Monitor online conversations and trending topics to identify opportunities to insert the campaign into the narrative and bring attention to campaign content.
  • Provide strategic guidance and support to CWS local community engagement staff and community partners, serving as the primary point of contact for coordinating, amplifying and promoting locally-led campaign-related events, advocacy actions and other public activities.
  • Represent the campaign at public forums, faith and partner convenings and other events throughout the year.
  • Identify opportunities for media attention to the campaign, coordinating with CWS communications team to pursue press opportunities, pitch stories and draft op-eds on behalf of faith and community leaders.
  • Develop messaging guidance and talking points for faith leaders and community spokespeople to advocate publicly.
  • Organize and coordinate training opportunities to equip campaign partners in areas of public engagement, messaging, civic engagement, peaceful resistance and other topics as needed.
  • Coordinate with the CWS Advocacy Team’s community organizers to develop and implement civic engagement strategies for the 2026 midterm elections.
  • Manage emerging channels for coordination and planning of campaign-related opportunities across the Rise Up for Refuge network.
  • Track campaign-related activities and engagement.
  • Manage email and contact lists.
