Our Rail and Transit Solutions engineers perform a wide range of tasks across the full systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements management, design, integration, verification, and validation of system elements to ensure robust systems assurance. We are seeking a Communication Systems Engineer – SCADA and PLCs to support projects in Western Canada and beyond. The successful candidate will execute engineering and design activities for the deployment of state-of-the-art SCADA systems, PLCs/RTUs, and operator interfaces as a key professional member of the Parsons team. You will be organized, detail-oriented, and effective at communicating plans, requirements, results, and technical information to internal and external stakeholders at various management levels and with diverse technical backgrounds. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or an equivalent technical/scientific discipline degree related to area of specialty (NOTE: Newly-hired PhD graduates are typically hired into this level.)
  • 5+ years of related professional experience
  • Experience in at least two of the following is required: SCADA, BAS/DDC, RTUs, PLCs, data networks
  • P.Eng designation in British Columbia, or eligibility for accreditation in BC
  • Ability to understand and participate in a formal Systems Engineering approach
  • Understanding of RAM (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability) principles and Systems Safety
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary systems environment or independently, as required
  • Strong verbal communication skills, including effective listening and speaking
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare and guide others in the development of technical analyses and reports
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Visio in particular)

Responsibilities

  • Develop designs for communication systems, including SCADA and BMS/BAS headends, and field RTUs and PLCs.
  • Prepare engineering documentation to support transit projects, including plans, interface control documents, specifications, installation drawings, analyses, and test plans and reports.
  • Prepare and support component, sub-system, and system procurement documentation (technical specifications, vendor selection support, post-award technical support, etc.).
  • Interface with, and provide guidance to, other design disciplines (fixed facilities, trackwork, PS&D, guideway, etc.) and external stakeholders (clients, architects, code consultants, AHJs, major suppliers, etc.).
  • Support construction and installation activities in the field.
  • Supervise, review, or witness testing and troubleshooting activities.
  • Support commissioning and setting to work of mass transit communications systems.
  • Support training of customer staff.
  • Develop and contribute to Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Manuals.
  • Coordinate with other project engineering and test team members to provide systems engineering support.
  • Travel as required in support of projects and proposals.
