About The Position

At Parsons, a global leader in rail and transit solutions, we design and deliver the infrastructure that keeps communities moving. This role is for a Communications Systems Engineer – Systems Networks to join the Rail & Transit team in Burnaby, Canada, supporting major transit projects across Western Canada and beyond. The position involves contributing to the design and deployment of advanced transit communications and network systems that support command, control, and operational readiness across mass transit environments. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or an equivalent technical/scientific discipline degree related to area of specialty
  • 5+ years of related professional and experience in at least two of the following: IP networks, phone systems, fiber optic distribution systems, structured cabling solutions
  • P.Eng designation, or the ability to obtain professional accreditation in British Columbia
  • Understanding of formal systems engineering processes and methodologies
  • Familiarity with: RAM principles, systems safety principles
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment and independently when needed
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with: Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in both a design office environment and hands-on field or installation support roles

Responsibilities

  • Designing communications systems, including: fibre-optic cabling systems, copper cabling systems, operational IP-based voice and data networks, analog voice systems
  • Preparing technical and engineering documentation such as: design plans, interface control documents, specifications, installation drawings, engineering analyses, test plans and reports
  • Supporting procurement activities, including: technical specifications, vendor evaluations, supplier coordination, post-award technical support
  • Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, including: fixed facilities, trackwork, PS&D, guideway clients, architects, code consultants, authorities having jurisdiction, major suppliers
  • Supporting field installation, testing, troubleshooting, and construction activities
  • Assisting with commissioning and start-up of mass transit communications systems
  • Supporting customer training and preparing operations and maintenance manuals
  • Collaborating with project engineering and test teams to ensure systems engineering alignment throughout the project lifecycle
  • Traveling as needed to support projects and proposals
