About The Position

This Project Engineer position is responsible for the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, performance requirements, engineering plans, and specifications for assigned projects. The role involves consulting with the project manager to perform research, development, calculations, design, and delivery, applying engineering techniques, procedures, and design criteria for projects of varying size and complexity. The Project Engineer leverages technical knowledge and experience to address design-related issues, working closely with the project manager through creative problem-solving, client interactions, and task completion to meet project schedules. This role develops conceptual and detailed designs and calculations using current drawing and technical tools, programs, and software. The Project Engineer may also mentor, train, and review the work of junior engineering staff, providing constructive feedback. Various tasks and duties, including research, data collection, field investigations, development, and design of projects, are completed self-sufficiently. As a team member, this role contributes to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of HNTB’s clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or PhD in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with design of fiber optic and copper communications cabling and rail station systems such as: Public Address, Electronic Signage, CCTV, Access Control
  • Strategic thinker with demonstrated collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Technical knowledge of rail systems (Comms, Signal, Traction Power) and phasing/staging of rail systems and infrastructure projects
  • Experience with NY Metro Rail clients (MTA, NJT, Amtrak, PATH)

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Engineering
  • 8 years relevant experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification (depending on discipline)

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the planning and distribution of discipline-specific work, and adherence to the schedule and budget on projects.
  • Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.
  • Assists with the development of scope of work and level of effort for projects and/or assignments within discipline.
  • Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work within the technical discipline.
  • Guides and mentors team to overall project objectives.
  • Coordinates technical aspects of project with client counterpart and teaming partners at staff level for work within the discipline.
  • Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
