About The Position

Better Living Health and Community Services has an opening for a Communication Specialist. The Communications and Digital Marketing Assistant supports the work of the Communications and Marketing team by helping create clear, engaging, and brand-aligned content for both internal and external audiences. This role assists with writing, editing, and organizing communications across digital platforms including newsletters, the website, social media, and program materials. The Assistant also contributes to visual content development using approved templates and tools. This position plays an important part in strengthening awareness of organizational programs and services and supporting key initiatives across the Better Living family of organizations. This position reports to Manager, Philanthropy To be eligible to participate in Canada Summer Jobs, Candidates Must: Be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment; Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigrant and Refugee Protection Act and; Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary studies in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or a related field of study.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to adapt tone and style for different audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrate high level of interpersonal skills required to succeed in a collaborative, team-oriented working environment.
  • Demonstrate ability to work through customer issues to achieve a desired outcome.
  • Adapt and change accordingly to plans and circumstances proactively.
  • Ability to work independently and in a high volume team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a supportive manner
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Experience with documentation and strong written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using Canva or Adobe Creative Suite is an asset.
  • Experience in a related field of work is an asset.
  • Successful completion of Vulnerable Sector Screening within one month of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, edit, and proofread content for newsletters, social media, website updates, print flyers, signage, and internal communications.
  • Support the development of communication plans and key messaging for various programs and initiatives.
  • Create or adapt visual materials using Canva or Adobe tools while following brand guidelines.
  • Assist with scheduling, publishing, and maintaining content across digital platforms.
  • Monitor engagement on digital channels upon execution of different paid/unpaid campaigns.
  • Assist with preparing branded presentations, staff updates, and internal communication materials.
  • Maintain organized digital files, templates, and branded asset libraries for staff reference and use.
  • Provide services in keeping with the organization’s Mission, Vision and Beliefs and Resident Declaration of Values.
  • Adhere to the principles and expectations outlined in the Code of Conduct.
  • Adhere to the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA 2010) as outlined in the organization privacy policies and procedures.
  • Perform the functions of job description in compliance with the Health and Safety practices of the organization and in accordance with the provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Participate in the continuous quality improvement activities of the organization in order to advance a culture of quality and support ongoing compliance with CARF Accreditation standards.
