About The Position

IREN is a vertically integrated AI Cloud provider delivering large-scale data centers and GPU clusters for AI training and inference. The Commissioning Subject Matter Expert – Electrical sets the discipline standard for commissioning across IREN’s regions and sites. This senior, program-level individual-contributor role reports to the Director, Data Center Commissioning and supports the commissioning function across projects rather than being assigned to a single project. The standards developed in this role will be used by IREN commissioning crews and external Commissioning Authorities. The role owns IREN’s electrical commissioning specifications, acceptance criteria, and standards for approving Commissioning Authority test scripts. It serves as a technical escalation point for campus commissioning teams, reviews Commissioning Authority deliverables and first-of-kind installations, and provides technical input to Engineering and Procurement on designs, equipment, factory testing, and commissioning scopes. Electrical responsibilities cover the power chain from medium-voltage service to the rack, including 4.16–34.5 kV distribution, switchgear, transformers, protection, UPS, generators and paralleling, battery energy storage, on-site generation, busway, and power distribution units. The role establishes standards for energization, NETA acceptance testing, load testing, and integrated systems testing. The position is remote within the United States, with travel of up to 25% to IREN sites in Texas and elsewhere in North America, as well as the Fort Worth office. Candidates in the Dallas–Fort Worth area or within easy reach of IREN’s Texas sites are preferred.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Controls, or a related engineering field.
  • 10+ years of data center or mission-critical commissioning, start-up, or engineering experience in the discipline, including large-scale programs and full Level 1 to Level 5 delivery.
  • Demonstrated authorship of commissioning specifications, test procedures, or standards used across more than one project.
  • Deep knowledge of data center electrical systems, including medium-voltage distribution, switchgear, transformers and protection, UPS, generators and paralleling, battery energy storage, busway, and power distribution, including their energization, testing, and acceptance.
  • Working knowledge of integrated systems testing across electrical, mechanical, and controls, and of electrical power monitoring systems.
  • Experience reviewing and directing third-party Commissioning Authorities and equipment vendors.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% to IREN sites.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • BCxP or CCP credential, plus a discipline credential such as NETA certification; PE license or chartered status.
  • Commissioning experience with 34.5 kV class switchgear, protection coordination, battery energy storage, and on-site generation.
  • Experience establishing commissioning in a new region or with a new Commissioning Authority.
  • Candidates in the Dallas–Fort Worth area or within easy reach of IREN’s Texas sites are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Author and maintain electrical commissioning specifications, acceptance criteria, Level 1 to Level 5 definitions, and integrated systems test requirements for new-build and conversion projects, including self-performed and general-contractor delivery.
  • Act as the technical escalation point for campus commissioning teams; resolve standard-versus-schedule questions with the Cx Project Manager and Director, and record decisions.
  • Review Commissioning Authority commissioning plans, test scripts, and reports for compliance; audit field execution; and witness sampling and first-of-kind installations across sites.
  • Provide commissioning input to Engineering on basis of design and specifications, and to Procurement on equipment, factory test requirements, Commissioning Authority scopes of work, and request-for-proposal templates.
  • Lead the factory witness testing strategy for critical equipment in the discipline and approve factory acceptance test procedures.
  • Lead root-cause analysis of significant discipline failures or repeat deficiencies and incorporate findings into commissioning standards.
  • Own the electrical test and energization standard, including pre-energization and foreign-object inspection and release, NETA acceptance testing, protection and relay testing, load-bank and transfer testing, UPS and battery testing, and the sequence from Level 3 start-up to Level 5 integrated systems testing.
  • Track emerging standards and codes in regions where IREN builds and update IREN standards accordingly.
  • Develop and deliver technical training modules with the Training Program Lead; serve on interview panels; and mentor project commissioning leads and site commissioning crews.
  • Support procurement and mobilization of Commissioning Authorities in new regions so IREN standards apply from day one.
