About The Position

The Commissioning Project Manager, Construction will oversee and execute the commissioning phase of PV and BESS energy projects. This role manages the transition of utility-scale assets from mechanical completion through initial synchronization and grid integration, to commercial operation and final operation turnover. You will guide the execution of PV performance testing and battery storage capacity and efficiency testing, and ensure projects meet all contractual guarantees and achieve full commercial market participation. This role interfaces closely with EPC contractors and major equipment OEMs, and manages project schedule and owner-side consultants. Internally, this role requires close coordination with teams across Development, Engineering, Procurement, Origination, Finance, Legal, and Operations. The successful candidate will be comfortable managing multiple large-scale infrastructure projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of commissioning or start-up engineering experience on utility-scale solar PV and battery energy storage systems.
  • Experience serving as Project Manager or equivalent role on at least two large-scale infrastructure projects from NTP through substantial completion.
  • Direct experience commissioning large-scale PV and BESS projects, including familiarity with power conversion systems, battery management systems, thermal management, and fire suppression systems.
  • Strong understanding of performance testing.
  • Solid understanding of EPC contracts, interconnection agreements, ISO and utility testing requirements, and telemetry/SCADA architectures.
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel, Google Workspace, Slack, and Bluebeam.
  • Ability to translate complex project information into clear reports and presentations for executive stakeholders.
  • Strong communication, organization, and stakeholder management skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with construction safety practices and field coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the commissioning execution of various grid-connected PV and BESS projects through initial synchronization, commercial operations, and substantial completion.
  • Engage with EPC Contractors and OEMs to establish testing procedures and guide testing through to successful achievement of guarantees and full market participation.
  • Manage contract deliverables, technical submittals, and performance guarantees with EPC partners and OEMs.
  • Coordinate with the Participating Transmission Owner, Grid operator, third party scheduling coordinators, and internal teams to manage test schedules and resource integration processes.
  • Drive the transition of the physical plant and all technical documentation to the IPX O&M team.
  • Maintain oversight of site safety, ensuring compliance with site-specific safety plans, safety standards, and local environmental permitting requirements.
  • Support cross-functional teams with commissioning reporting and documentation, coordinate with Owner’s Engineers to ensure engineering deliverables meet project specifications, coordinate with Origination team to ensure compliance with Power Purchase Agreements, synchronize with other Project Management team members and mentor associate project managers to support their development, review and manage engineering documentation including RFIs, submittmits, transmittals, IFC drawings, and as-built packages, and prepare internal project updates and reports for executive leadership
