About The Position

As a Commissioning Engineer for PCL Construction, Inc. in Tempe, Arizona, you’ll have the opportunity to lead and coordinate critical commissioning activities from system startup through final commissioning, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and on schedule. Working alongside project teams, subcontractors, and vendors, you'll oversee the planning, execution, and documentation of system testing and integration, playing a key role in bringing complex systems online while maintaining the highest standards of quality, accuracy, and compliance with approved procedures. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Control Systems Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in startup and commissioning of industrial or water/wastewater systems.
  • Strong knowledge of Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) and Systems Integration.
  • Proficiency in project planning and scheduling, including the use of lookahead tools and commissioning tracking systems.
  • Solid understanding of construction processes, project coordination, and risk management.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Familiarity with commissioning software tools and reporting platforms.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as required.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and perform on-site startup and commissioning activities for assigned systems and subsystems.
  • Develop, maintain, and update the commissioning schedule and rolling lookahead plan to align with project milestones and resource priorities.
  • Review and control component and system test documentation, ensuring compliance with design intent and contract requirements.
  • Provide technical support during installation, startup, and functional testing phases, identifying and resolving issues in real time.
  • Collaborate with engineering, construction, and operations teams to ensure commissioning readiness and system handover.
  • Track progress and proactively communicate schedule impacts, risks, and mitigation plans.
  • Ensure all required documentation, test forms, and turnover packages are completed accurately and submitted on time.
  • Support the Commissioning Manager in maintaining project status reporting and stakeholder coordination.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, and collaboration on site.
