About The Position

ECNS is seeking a Commissioning Engineer to join our Field Services department. This role involves executing and supporting commissioning, testing, startup, and turnover activities for electrical power systems and equipment. The engineer will develop and perform commissioning procedures, troubleshoot technical issues, coordinate with various stakeholders, and manage project scope, schedules, and budgets. Depending on the level (I, II, or III), responsibilities may include leading field testing, overseeing execution, and providing technical guidance to junior engineers. The position requires extensive travel and the ability to work effectively in a remote environment.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) or Master's Degree (M.S.) in electrical engineering from a college/university accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET)
Experience with commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and startup of utility, industrial, generation, transmission, distribution, or substation electrical systems.
Knowledge of protection and control systems, electrical equipment testing, power system operation, and commissioning best practices.
Familiarity with IEEE, IEC, ANSI, NETA, NFPA 70E, NESC, and other applicable industry codes and standards.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex field issues.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively coordinate with clients, contractors, vendors, and project teams.
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
Commissioning Engineer I: 1–3 years of related experience preferred.
Commissioning Engineer II: 3+ years of experience in electrical testing, commissioning, or power systems engineering.
Commissioning Engineer III: 7+ years of experience in electrical testing, commissioning, startup, or power systems engineering.

Nice To Haves

FE certification preferred (Commissioning Engineer II).
PE license preferred (Commissioning Engineer III).
Experience with commissioning and testing of protective relays, circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, SCADA systems, and associated electrical equipment is preferred.
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Execute and support commissioning, testing, startup, and turnover activities for electrical power systems and equipment.
Develop and perform commissioning procedures, test plans, and documentation for MV/LV systems, generators, UPS systems, switchgear, and related infrastructure.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient system operation.
Coordinate commissioning activities with clients, contractors, vendors, and project teams.
Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and commissioning deliverables commensurate with experience level.
Lead field testing activities, oversee commissioning execution, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
Prepare and maintain commissioning reports, test records, and project documentation.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and commissioning personnel, as appropriate (Commissioning Engineer III).
