About The Position

The Commissioning Engineer will execute and support commissioning, testing, startup, and turnover activities for electrical power systems and equipment. This role involves developing and performing commissioning procedures, test plans, and documentation for various electrical systems. The engineer will troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, coordinate activities with clients and project teams, and manage project scope, schedules, and budgets. Leading field testing and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards are key aspects of the position. For the Commissioning Engineer III level, providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers is also expected. Requirements

Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) or Master's Degree (M.S.) in electrical engineering from a college/university accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET)
1–3 years of related experience preferred (Commissioning Engineer I)
3+ years of experience in electrical testing, commissioning, or power systems engineering (Commissioning Engineer II)
7+ years of experience in electrical testing, commissioning, startup, or power systems engineering (Commissioning Engineer III)
Experience with commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and startup of utility, industrial, generation, transmission, distribution, or substation electrical systems.
Knowledge of protection and control systems, electrical equipment testing, power system operation, and commissioning best practices.
Familiarity with IEEE, IEC, ANSI, NETA, NFPA 70E, NESC, and other applicable industry codes and standards.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex field issues.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively coordinate with clients, contractors, vendors, and project teams.
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Ability to bend, crouch, climb, and work at various heights.
Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as needed.
100% annual travel for team meetings and business needs.
Ability to work effectively in a fully remote environment.

Nice To Haves

FE certification preferred (Commissioning Engineer II)
PE license preferred (Commissioning Engineer III)
Experience with commissioning and testing of protective relays, circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, SCADA systems, and associated electrical equipment is preferred.
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Execute and support commissioning, testing, startup, and turnover activities for electrical power systems and equipment.
Develop and perform commissioning procedures, test plans, and documentation for MV/LV systems, generators, UPS systems, switchgear, and related infrastructure.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient system operation.
Coordinate commissioning activities with clients, contractors, vendors, and project teams.
Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and commissioning deliverables commensurate with experience level.
Lead field testing activities, oversee commissioning execution, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
Prepare and maintain commissioning reports, test records, and project documentation.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and commissioning personnel, as appropriate (Commissioning Engineer III).
