Commissioning & Building Systems Delivery Manager
About The Position
The Team Manager provides leadership for multidisciplinary teams overseeing Technical Services (TS), retro-commissioning (RCx), and new building commissioning (Cx) scopes within Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) programs. The role is accountable for technical excellence, operational performance, and client satisfaction across the project lifecycle, from early planning and design review through implementation, performance verification, and ongoing optimization. Projects are typically delivered across complex, multi-building and multi-campus portfolios in higher education and healthcare environments. Commissioning scopes often support complex mechanical and controls upgrades, while RCx efforts involve substantial mechanical infrastructure and advanced, integrated control strategies requiring significant technical and operational coordination. The Team Manager oversees project execution to meet budget, schedule, and quality objectives and collaborates with executive leadership, engineering teams, construction management, and trade partners to deliver commissioning efforts. The role also builds, develops, and leads high-performing teams, establishes best practices, and promotes consistent, scalable project delivery.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field, or 4 years of related experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
- 6+ years of experience in HVAC controls, design, energy management, or another relevant field.
- 2+ years of leadership experience, concurrent with the stated field experience.
- Experience supporting portfolio-level projects, including commissioning and retro-commissioning of complex MEP systems, with a strong understanding of system integration, performance verification, and operational optimization.
- Strong analytical thinking and advanced problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and deliver results with minimal oversight.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to travel 30–40% to remote job sites.
- Ability to adjust and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.
Nice To Haves
- Engineering Intern (EI) certification and/or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
- PMI Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Commissioning certification from ACG, BCxA, or ASHRAE.
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification.
- Building automation systems design and programming experience.
- Experience working on projects in healthcare and/or higher education settings.
- Competency with cloud-based commissioning software platforms.
- Proficiency with Bluebeam Studio and Revu software.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage 4–6 team members and their daily activities.
- Participate in developing project scopes, technical approaches, staffing plans, and estimates.
- Establish project execution plans to achieve intended outcomes within established budgets and schedules.
- Develop and maintain monthly cost forecasts for assigned projects.
- Develop and manage schedules for assigned scopes, integrate tasks with the master project schedule, and participate in scheduling meetings to identify and resolve constraints.
- Monitor scope deviations across technical disciplines and inform the project team of risks, constraints, and schedule or budget updates needed to execute the scope or achieve project outcomes.
- Coordinate regularly with the Technical Services Director to optimize staff utilization and skill sets for project success.
- Track energy performance for assigned scopes and collaborate with the project team to meet and maintain performance targets.
- Coordinate with project team members to ensure requirements for assigned scopes are accurately documented and communicated.
- Collaborate with the energy management team to quantify the impact of existing conditions, deficiencies, and issues and prioritize responses; ensure action plans are prioritized and communicated to the project team.
- Proactively address and escalate impediments to achieving project outcomes and completing scopes, coordinating with project leadership, engineering, and energy management.
- Develop and train assigned resources to ensure they have the skills and knowledge needed for successful project execution.
