About The Position

A law firm with a sophisticated commercial real estate litigation practice is seeking an experienced Commercial Real Estate Litigation Paralegal to join its primarily remote team supporting California matters. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive paralegal who knows California commercial unlawful detainer litigation inside and out and wants the autonomy to help drive cases forward while remaining closely connected to attorneys, clients, and a collaborative team. The position requires the candidate to live in Southern California and have significant experience with unlawful detainer litigation.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of litigation paralegal experience
  • Significant hands-on experience with California commercial unlawful detainer matters
  • Strong understanding of California civil litigation procedures and the full lifecycle of an unlawful detainer case
  • Experience with California court filing, service requirements, litigation calendaring, and deadline management
  • Working knowledge of landlord-tenant issues relevant to commercial unlawful detainer matters, including notices, service, procedural requirements, and potential defenses
  • Ability to independently manage numerous active cases and competing deadlines without sacrificing accuracy
  • Excellent organization, written communication, and professional client communication skills
  • Proactive mindset with the judgment to identify missing information, procedural concerns, and next steps without waiting for attorney direction
  • Strong comfort with technology and working effectively in a primarily electronic, remote environment
  • Must live in Southern California

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing a high-volume commercial landlord-tenant or unlawful detainer docket
  • Broader commercial real estate litigation experience
  • Experience supporting matters through trial, appeal, and judgment enforcement
  • Familiarity with federal and bankruptcy court filing procedures
  • Experience with eDiscovery tools, document management platforms, Microsoft 365, and other litigation technology

Responsibilities

  • Manage key aspects of California commercial unlawful detainer and real estate litigation matters from pre-suit through trial, judgment enforcement, and other post-judgment activity
  • Take ownership of case progression by identifying what needs to happen next, tracking procedural requirements, and keeping attorneys ahead of deadlines
  • Prepare and coordinate pleadings, default materials, writs, discovery, subpoenas, motions, declarations, exhibits, and other litigation documents
  • Maintain accurate litigation calendars covering service, responsive pleadings, discovery, hearings, trials, and other critical dates
  • Coordinate with courts, process servers, sheriff's departments, vendors, witnesses, and other parties involved in active matters
  • Handle electronic filing and service in California state courts and assist with federal and bankruptcy court filings as needed
  • Support discovery and eDiscovery, including document organization, written discovery, responses, and data management
  • Prepare attorneys for hearings, settlement conferences, and trials by organizing exhibits, witness materials, chronologies, and other case resources
  • Maintain organized electronic files and provide clear, timely updates to attorneys and clients
  • Help manage reporting and status updates for clients with multiple active matters
  • Research procedural and factual questions independently and escalate issues appropriately
