About The Position

The Commercial Loan Operations Wire Control Specialist is responsible for the timely and accurate review, approval, and release oversight of wire transactions initiated through Commercial Loan Operations. The role serves as an operational control to ensure wires are properly authorized, supported, and processed according to established procedures, approval authorities, service-level expectations, and applicable regulatory requirements. The Specialist monitors pending wires, follows up to resolve outstanding approvals or documentation, and escalates transactions at risk of missing processing deadlines. When required, the Specialist may perform independent callback verification to address process gaps or transaction-specific verification requirements. The position also supports daily wire reconciliation, tracks processing delays and recurring issues, and contributes to procedure development, training, quality reviews, audit requests, control testing, and remediation. It works with Commercial Loan Operations and cross-functional partners to resolve transaction issues, while maintaining current knowledge of wire procedures, approval authorities, deadlines, fraud-prevention practices, and regulatory requirements. The role requires significant physical exertion and stamina, including repeated bending, reaching, climbing, or moderate and frequent lifting.

  • At least 6 years of experience in a large commercial bank or related financial institution, with direct experience handling commercial loan transactions and servicing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Risk and control awareness, timely execution, and follow-through.
  • Sound independent judgment, including recognizing when escalation, additional review, or specialized expertise is needed.
  • Ability to identify operational and control risks and follow established policies, procedures, documentation, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships through clear communication and proactive collaboration.
  • Ability to build trusted internal or external client relationships by identifying needs and delivering tailored solutions.
  • Ability to support a positive work culture and productive work environment.
  • Significant physical exertion and stamina, including repeated bending, reaching, climbing, or moderate and frequent lifting.

Nice To Haves

  • Undergraduate degree (4 years or equivalent), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience supporting commercial loan funding, servicing, syndications, participations, construction lending, or other complex commercial transactions.
  • Familiarity with fraud-prevention controls, sanctions screening, Bank Secrecy Act requirements, and operational risk-management practices.
  • Experience performing quality-control reviews, exception tracking, reconciliations, or operational reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Review commercial loan wire transactions for completeness, accuracy, supporting documentation, and required approvals.
  • Confirm wire instructions match the applicable loan documentation, funding authorization, servicing request, or other approved source.
  • Approve wires within assigned authority and in accordance with dual-control requirements.
  • Monitor wire queues throughout the day to ensure approved transactions are released within deadlines and service-level expectations.
  • Follow up with initiators, approvers, wire/BSA/AML teams, relationship partners, or other responsible parties when transactions remain pending.
  • Escalate delayed, incomplete, unusual, or high-risk transactions to appropriate management or control functions.
  • Perform independent callback verification when required, using approved and independently verified sources rather than relying solely on contact information in the wire request.
  • Document callback results, approvals, follow-up efforts, exceptions, and escalations in accordance with record-retention requirements.
  • Identify discrepancies, potential fraud indicators, unusual transaction activity, or deviations from wire procedures and promptly escalate them.
  • Maintain segregation of duties and prevent incompatible initiation, verification, and approval activities from being performed by the same individual.
  • Support daily reconciliation and confirm that approved wires have been released, rejected, canceled, or appropriately carried forward.
  • Track processing delays, exceptions, callback gaps, and recurring issues for management reporting and process improvement.
  • Assist with procedure development, training, quality reviews, audit requests, control testing, and remediation related to commercial loan wires.
  • Partner with Commercial Loan Operations, Wire Operations, BSA/AML Operations, Relationship Management, Closing, Servicing, Compliance, Fraud, and other stakeholders to resolve transaction issues.
  • Maintain current knowledge of wire procedures, approval authorities, processing deadlines, fraud-prevention practices, and applicable regulatory requirements.
