About The Position

The Commercial Director will provide a portfolio-wide commercial and supply chain advisory leadership across Major Projects West projects, ensuring disciplined contract formation, robust change management, design governance, and effective subcontract execution. The role acts as a trusted advisor to project leadership, driving standards, and building capability without direct day-to-day project ownership.

Requirements

  • Act as senior advisor to Project Directors and Commercial Managers/Directors on commercial strategy and risk.
  • 12–15+ years in commercial, contracts, or supply chain roles.
  • Strong experience in contract formation, change management, claims, and design/commercial interfaces with proven ability to influence and implement processes across multiple projects.

Responsibilities

  • Act as senior advisor to Project Directors and Commercial Managers/Directors on commercial strategy and risk.
  • Provide independent challenge on high-risk projects, major changes, and disputes.
  • Support complex client negotiations and claims strategy.
  • Guide prime contract review, negotiation, and setup.
  • Ensure effective contract administration frameworks (notices, change, claims).
  • Promote consistency in commercial practices and risk allocation.
  • Drive early identification, documentation, and entitlement positioning of changes.
  • Support claims development and dispute avoidance.
  • Align upstream client changes with downstream subcontract positions.
  • Advise on design agreements, scope clarity, and risk allocation.
  • Support management of design-driven changes and disputes.
  • Ensure linkage between design decisions and commercial outcomes.
  • Advise on procurement strategies and market approach.
  • Support subcontract formation, negotiation, and award.
  • Ensure subcontract alignment with prime contract risk exposure.
  • Lead rollout of commercial and supply chain processes and standards.
  • Monitor compliance and address audit findings.
  • Standardize reporting, KPIs, and controls across projects.
  • Develop and coach commercial and project teams.
  • Deliver training on contract management, change management, and procurement.
  • Drive uplift in commercial capability across Civils West.
