The Commercial Business Development Officer (CBDO) is responsible for partnering with assigned Enterprise Bankers to provide the most appropriate lending solution to prospects and clients with revenues up to $50 Million. Solutions include conventional and SBA loan options. The CBDO will also be responsible for building a network of COIs in their assigned market to self-source lending opportunities and identify and develop new client relationships for the bank. The CBDO maintains and builds a network of referral sources including internal and external partners, Real Estate Brokers, Community Development Corporations (CDCs), commercial referral sources, and prospect lists provided by marketing intelligence. Once a relationship is established and the initial transaction is complete, the CBDO transfers the client to a Relationship Manager to deepen and expand the long-term banking relationship, allowing the CBDO to focus on the primary role of identifying and booking lending solutions. The CBDO's primary focus includes identifying, marketing and educating on all loan products, including SBA options.

Requirements

  • 5–10 years of experience in commercial banking and/or business lending
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve or exceed sales goals and develop new client relationships
  • Experience providing financial solutions for small businesses, including SBA lending options
  • Familiarity with CRM systems and digital tools (e.g., Salesforce or similar platforms)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence effectively
  • Ability to identify and manage risk in alignment with organizational standards
  • High School Diploma / GED / Secondary School or equivalent experience

Nice To Haves

  • Proven ability to build and maintain business relationships through internal and external referral sources
  • Established network of Centers of Influence (COIs) and market knowledge with a track record of prospecting and business development
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, or related field
  • Formal credit or lending training and strong credit analysis skills, including expertise in SBA lending

Responsibilities

  • Cultivates new relationships with prospects across different markets
  • Works with local teams during prospect identification, calling, due diligence, onboarding, and underwriting processes
  • Assists local client teams that are extending credit for the first time to clients with due diligence, underwriting and interactions with Risk
  • Builds and maintains a network of internal and external centers of influence that facilitate new Business Banking relationships
  • Participates in external trade shows, conferences, and speaking engagements, that support our external brand and marketing strategy, and drive new business opportunities
  • Serves with subject matter expertise to sales teams, provides education to market teams on capabilities, and assists with identification of opportunities in local markets
  • Works with internal partners and stakeholders to further develop and refine market strategy
