About The Position

The Color Guard Advisor is a stipend position responsible for directing and supervising all appropriate activities for the color guard, including practice sessions, games, performances, parades, pep rallies, competitions, and meetings. This role is directly responsible to the building principal.

Requirements

• Experienced with performing on guard equipment including flag, rifle, and saber.
• Able to teach the technical skills for various guard equipment as required by the field show and needs of the ensemble.
• Able to choreograph guard moves for marching field show and parade events.
• Able to teach marching skills to guard consistent with the band’s system of marching and vocabulary.
• Organized to keep track of inventory such as drill charts, uniforms and equipment.
• Willing to assist band director and majorette coach with marching lessons for entire ensemble.
• Dedication to the service of youth.

Nice To Haves

• Member of the High School teaching staff.
• Experience in directing activities for color guard team.
• Knowledge of color guard routines and programs.

Responsibilities

• Direct and supervise appropriate activities such as practice sessions, games, performances, parades, pep rallies, competitions and meetings.
• Teach technical skills for various guard equipment (flag, rifle, saber) as required by the field show and needs of the ensemble.
• Choreograph guard moves for marching field shows and parade events.
• Teach marching skills to the guard consistent with the band’s system of marching and vocabulary.
• Assist the band director and majorette coach with marching lessons for the entire ensemble.
• Keep track of inventory such as drill charts, uniforms, and equipment.
• Maintain regular practice hours every week in coordination with the band’s rehearsal times.
• Supervise and assist guard students at all performances including football games, parades, ceremonies, etc.
• Adhere to the adopted policies of the Bellingham School Committee.
