About The Position

A collision estimator (also called an auto body estimator) is a professional who assesses vehicle damage after accidents and provides accurate repair cost estimates for customers and insurance companies. They act as a liaison between customers, repair shops, and insurers, ensuring repairs are completed efficiently, safely, and within budget.

Requirements

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in collision repair software and estimating tools.
  • Knowledge of automotive repair processes, parts pricing, and insurance procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Associate’s degree in auto body repair or related field.
  • I-CAR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect vehicles to evaluate structural, body, mechanical, electrical, and interior damage.
  • Use specialized software (e.g., CCC One, Audatex, Mitchell) and manual calculations to determine labor, parts, and material costs.
  • Document inspection findings, repair plans, and cost breakdowns for insurance claims and internal records.
  • Work with adjusters to submit estimates, negotiate approvals, and ensure compliance with insurance guidelines.
  • Explain repair options, costs, timelines, and procedures; address customer concerns and preferences.
  • Coordinate with technicians and parts departments to schedule repairs and ensure component availability.
  • Follow up on repairs to verify work meets safety and quality standards before returning the vehicle.
  • Inspect damaged vehicles to determine necessary repairs.
  • Estimate repair costs using industry standards and software.
  • Prepare and submit detailed damage reports to insurers.
  • Communicate repair status and updates to customers.
  • Negotiate repair costs with repair shops.
  • Maintain accurate records of estimates, repairs, and claims.
  • Stay updated on vehicle design, repair techniques, and industry regulations.
