About The Position

The College of Southern Nevada (CSN) is seeking a First Year Experience (FYE) Peer Leader for the Fall 2026 semester. This role supports the First Year Experience & Student Success Initiatives, including FYE Registration/Enrollment events and Student First Stations. FYE Peer Leaders act as campus resources, assisting new students with their transition to CSN, providing continuous engagement, and offering insights into factors affecting the first-year student experience. They represent the diversity of the CSN community and aid in the development of personal, social, and academic skills for student success. This position reports to the Coordinator of Orientation and Director of First Year Experience.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible for Federal Work Study at CSN for Fall 2026 (or 2026-2027 Academic Year).
  • Positive attitude and public presentation skills.
  • Completion of at least one semester (minimum) at CSN.
  • Currently enrolled as a CSN student in a Degree/Certificate program for Fall 2026 (or 2026-2027 Academic year).
  • Must have good communication skills and ability to engage with students, parents, families, and CSN staff.
  • At application, must be in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 2.3 or higher.
  • Free from major time commitments during summer (May through August).
  • Concern for others and ability to interact well as a member of a team.
  • Must attach a Resume/CV.
  • Must attach proof of having received the Student Employment Award (copy of CSN Award Notification or screenshot of accepted award).

Nice To Haves

  • To remain an orientation leader must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome new students to CSN and assist them in navigating the college and its resources.
  • Participate in the FYE Homeroom portal on CANVAS and interact with CSN students on the First Year Experience Department’s social media pages.
  • Participate in large and small group discussions at First Year Experience Events.
  • Support welcoming initiatives such as Welcome Back days, CSN Connections, and other assigned events.
  • Conduct outbound phone calls to new CSN students for general assistance and referrals.
  • Assist with First Year Experience programming, orientation, and registration events.
  • Support Students First Stations to help new students with applications, academic advising appointments, resource awareness, and enrollment.
  • Prepare event materials.
  • Attend all FYE Peer Leadership trainings.
  • Assist with social media content creation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Hourly Rate of Pay: $14.00
