About The Position

The College of Southern Nevada (CSN) is seeking motivated and knowledgeable First Year Experience (FYE) Peer Leaders to support new students' transition and success. FYE Peer Leaders act as campus resources, assisting new students with navigating CSN, understanding the college experience, and connecting them with resources. They are trained experts in the first-year student journey, understanding factors that can impact a student's experience. FYE Peer Leaders represent the diversity of the CSN community and aid in the development of students' personal, social, and academic skills. They report to the Coordinator of Orientation and Director of First Year Experience.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible for Federal Work Study at CSN for Fall 2026 (or 2026-2027 Academic Year).
  • Positive attitude and public presentation skills.
  • Completion of at least one semester (minimum) at CSN.
  • Currently enrolled as a CSN student in a Degree/Certificate program for Fall 2026 (or 2026-2027 academic year).
  • Good communication skills and ability to engage with students, parents, families, and CSN staff.
  • Must be in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 2.3 or higher at the time of application.
  • Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher to remain an orientation leader.
  • Free from major time commitments during summer (May through August).
  • Concern for others and ability to interact well as a member of a team.
  • Must attach a Resume/CV.
  • Must attach proof of having received the Student Employment Award (copy of latest CSN Award Notification showing the Student Employment Award or a screenshot of the accepted award from the “View/Accept Financial Aid” screen in MyCSN).

Nice To Haves

  • Students cannot work another part-time position within NSHE at the same time they are employed as a CSN College Work Study student.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome new students to CSN and assist them in navigating the campus and its resources.
  • Participate in the FYE Homeroom portal on CANVAS.
  • Interact with CSN students on the First Year Experience Department’s social media pages.
  • Participate in large and small group discussions at First Year Experience Events.
  • Support welcoming initiatives such as Welcome Back days, CSN Connections, and other assigned events.
  • Conduct outbound phone calls to new CSN students to provide general assistance and referrals.
  • Assist with First Year Experience programming, orientation, and registration events.
  • Support Students First Stations to assist new students with CSN applications, academic advising appointments, resource awareness, and enrollment efforts.
  • Prepare event materials.
  • Attend all FYE Peer Leadership trainings.
  • Assist with social media content creation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
