College Intern - Water Resources
About The Position
RK&K is hiring a college intern for the Summer 2027 season to join the Water Resources Division in its Roanoke office. The internship offers on-the-job training, mentorship, and exposure to consulting engineering, including design, field work, and client management. Interns will encounter projects, challenges, and technology related to their discipline. The paid intern will assist with stormwater and storm drain system design, erosion and sediment control practices, stream restoration projects, field investigations, hydraulic modeling, construction plans, cost estimates, and CADD work in MicroStation. Duties and responsibilities may change at any time and are not limited to those listed.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering or a related area.
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software, including Word and Excel.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Valid driver's license.
Nice To Haves
- Participation in professional societies or extracurricular activities.
- Applicable prior internship experience.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, and/or GIS.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the design of stormwater and storm drain systems.
- Assist in the design of erosion and sediment control practices.
- Conduct field investigations to document existing conditions and evaluate stormwater facilities and outfalls.
- Perform hydraulic modeling using TR55- and TR20-based models.
- Prepare construction plans and cost estimates.
- Assist in the design of stream restoration projects.
- Perform CADD work using MicroStation software.
