About The Position

RK&K is hiring a paid college intern for the Summer 2027 season to join the Water Resources Division in its Roanoke office. Interns receive on-the-job training, mentorship, and insight into consulting engineering, including design, field work, and client management. The intern will be exposed to challenges, projects, and technology related to their discipline.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering or a related area.
• Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software, including Word and Excel.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

• Participation in professional societies or extracurricular activities.
• Applicable prior internship experience.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, and/or GIS.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the design of stormwater and storm drain systems.
• Assist with the design of erosion and sediment control practices.
• Conduct field investigations to document existing conditions and evaluate stormwater facilities and outfalls.
• Perform hydraulic modeling using TR55- and TR20-based models.
• Prepare construction plans and cost estimates.
• Assist with the design of stream restoration projects.
• Perform CADD work in MicroStation software.
