About The Position

RK&K is hiring a Transportation Design Intern to join its Highways team in the Charlotte, North Carolina office. The intern receives on-the-job training and collaborates with transportation engineering professionals. The role provides exposure to the development of designs for linear transportation projects, including new roadways, roadway extensions, pedestrian and bicycle facilities, traffic calming, and intersection safety improvements. Work may take place in the office and in the field as needed.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering.
• Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Self-motivated with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

• Participation in professional societies such as ASCE or ASHE.
• Applicable prior intern or co-op experience.
• Basic knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, and/or GIS.

Responsibilities

• Work on transportation projects throughout the mid-Atlantic region.
• Collect field data.
• Assist with the design of roadway, bicycle, and pedestrian facilities.
• Assist with maintenance of traffic and construction work-zone design.
• Contribute to corridor planning and cost estimating.
• Collaborate with team members to develop solutions to complex challenges.
• Complete assigned tasks in the office and in the field as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
