The College Aide will support NYC DOT’s transition toward strategic, data-driven citywide mobility analysis by developing a data quality control, standardization, and visualization toolkit. Working with the Data Systems & Counts Management team, the aide will build and modify workflows for ingesting, cleaning, and validating multimodal traffic counts and third-party location-based mobility data. The work may include identifying spatial errors, automating data-cleaning pipelines, and mapping anomalies across citywide networks. Findings and pipelines will support validation of major data streams, tracking of program performance metrics, and regional planning models intended to promote equitable and efficient mobility. The student will gain hands-on experience in public-sector data science and transportation planning under the direct mentorship of data professionals. They will develop technical skills in Python, SQL, and GIS while working with large-scale mobility datasets, and gain exposure to metropolitan planning data infrastructure. The experience may also support the development of a portfolio piece connecting data engineering with urban policy.
