About The Position

The Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) is seeking a College Aide Assistant to support the Human Capital (HC) Line of Service. The HC division focuses on recruiting, hiring, and administering civil service exams to identify qualified candidates for city agencies. This role will specifically assist the Classification and Compensation (C&C) unit, which is responsible for managing the civil service title portfolio for the City of New York. The C&C unit creates and modifies civil service titles, develops duty descriptions and qualification requirements, and advises city agencies on classification and compensation matters. They also prepare proposals for new titles and work collaboratively with agencies through public hearings for submission to the New York State Civil Service Commission (NYSCSC) for approval. The College Aide will receive training in civil service law and C&C processes.

Requirements

  • Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school.
  • Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.

Nice To Haves

  • For Assignment Level II (Information Technology): Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.
  • For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow): Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.

Responsibilities

  • Update the Title Specifications Online database and other unit records.
  • Auditing records for accuracy.
  • Archiving historical documents.
  • Drafting and responding to correspondence.
  • Assist with creating presentations in PowerPoint.
  • Research classification matters or questions.
