About The Position

New Mexico Gas Company is hiring a Collector or Senior Collector to collect past-due account payments, manage service disconnections, negotiate payment arrangements, and build customer confidence. The role involves field work across Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Belen, as well as responding to correspondence and processing credit- and collections-related service orders. The Collector position pays $43,040 to $53,800, and the Senior Collector position pays $48,720 to $60,900. Pay is based on the successful candidate’s skills, experience, and education. Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Collector: One year of work experience related to the position’s duties and responsibilities; related experience includes customer service or loss prevention.
Senior Collector: Three years of experience.
Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Able to read meters accurately at distances of up to 150 feet using binoculars.

Nice To Haves

Utility customer service, collections, and/or natural gas plumbing experience.
Experience working with hand tools.
Field work experience.

Responsibilities

Drive or walk an assigned route to contact customers at their properties and collect past-due payments or disconnect gas service on delinquent accounts.
Accurately read meter indexes and complete associated paperwork.
Coordinate property access with police, the utility service department, and/or animal control in dangerous or threatening situations.
Deliver notices and actively manage disconnects for non-payment; assist with preparing customer notices as needed.
Properly manage payments received and complete paperwork to ensure payments are credited to customer accounts.
Answer and respond to phone calls, emails, and other correspondence.
Process service orders related to credit and collections issues.
