About The Position

San Diego State University is seeking a Collections Management Program Coordinator to support our NAGPRA (Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act)/Collections Management Program Director. This role offers the opportunity to lead day-to-day operations, guide student workers, and contribute to meaningful NAGPRA-related activities in a professional curation facility.

Requirements

  • General knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods.
  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.
  • Experience working in a curation facility and handling cultural items.
  • Experience working respectfully with groups with cultural affiliation with holdings and handling cultural items in a sensitive manner.
  • Experience with digital archives and cataloging systems.
  • Familiarity with federal and state NAGPRA regulations.
  • Basic familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google applications, and geographic information systems (GIS).
  • Must currently be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
  • Must satisfactorily complete a background check (including a criminal records check).

Responsibilities

  • Handle day-to-day activities of NAGPRA/Collections Management Program and delegate tasks to graduate assistants and student workers.
  • Assist Tribe-appointed representatives in conducting NAGPRA reviews of collections, prepare documentation for collections undergoing the NAGPRA process, and prepare collections for repatriation.
  • Monitor all Collections Management facilities and practices to ensure curation standards are met.
