About The Position

Under the direction of the principal and the special education supervisor, the teacher will work with special education students to achieve excellence. The teacher is responsible for planning instruction and adapting the curriculum to accommodate students in the learning process. The teacher will function as the case manager for students with individualized education programs (IEPs) and oversee their compliance.

Requirements

  • State of Michigan Special Education Teacher Certification
  • SA endorsement
  • Believes that all children can learn and accept differences in students
  • Knowledge of and accuracy in completing IEPs, present level of student performance, measurable goals and objectives, and documentation of progress toward goals and objectives
  • Strong background in using assessment and data to inform instruction and document student progress
  • Successful classroom management strategies and skills
  • An appreciation for diversity and a desire to assist all students in becoming cross-culturally competent
  • Enthusiastic, flexible, and the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators
  • Willingness and commitment to participate in curriculum development, school improvement, committees, and professional development
  • Willingness to be trained and utilize in CPI, CPR, and First Aid strategies
  • Ability to abide by all district policies and procedures and to demonstrate competencies specific in Michigan Special Education Rules and Regulations
  • Consistent and reliable attendance

Responsibilities

  • Plan instruction and adapt curriculum to accommodate students in the learning process.
  • Function as the case manager for students with individualized education programs (IEPs) and oversee their compliance.
  • Differentiate academic instruction for diverse student needs across multiple grade levels and content areas.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Positive Behavior Support Plans.
  • Teach academic, organizational, and social strategies to students to foster success in general education.
  • Complete IEPs, present level of student performance, measurable goals and objectives, and documentation of progress toward goals and objectives.
  • Utilize and integrate technology in instructional practices.
  • Participate in curriculum development, school improvement, committees, and professional development.
  • Be trained and utilize in CPI, CPR, and First Aid strategies.
  • Abide by all district policies and procedures and demonstrate competencies specific in Michigan Special Education Rules and Regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
