About The Position

The Barista works in Hy-Vee’s coffee shop, serving customers and preparing beverages and other coffee shop products. The role focuses on friendly, helpful customer service, maintaining product freshness and availability, and keeping the work area clean and organized. Prior experience is not required; training and support are provided. The position involves working at a busy pace, managing multiple priorities, and following food-safety, hygiene, dress-code, and company standards.

Requirements

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Basic math skills for simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recording.
Ability to communicate clearly and helpfully with customers and teammates.
Ability to stay organized and keep up with the pace of a busy coffee shop.
Less than a high school diploma or equivalent experience is accepted.

Nice To Haves

Up to six months of similar or related work experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Greet customers warmly and provide outstanding service.
Take customer orders at the counter and over the phone, help customers find products, and answer questions.
Prepare and replenish coffee shop products as needed.
Monitor product freshness and appearance and follow or develop production lists to meet daily needs.
Handle food safely and keep the work area clean, neat, and up to department standards.
Check in products, put them away, and review invoices as needed.
Operate the department register and process payments where applicable.
Remove trash promptly and maintain a tidy department.
Work with teammates to provide a smooth, positive customer experience.
Follow Hy-Vee’s dress code, hygiene standards, and company policies.
Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed.
