Coffee Barista
About The Position
The Barista works in Hy-Vee’s coffee shop, serving as a friendly point of contact for customers. The role involves crafting beverages, keeping the coffee shop stocked and clean, and ensuring customers receive the products and service they need. No prior experience is required; training and support are provided. The position operates in a busy store coffee shop environment, with pressure to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities. The employee receives direction and support from the Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home, the Food Service Director, and the Coffee Shop Department Manager. Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a pre-employment drug screen.
Requirements
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic math skills for simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recording.
- Ability to communicate clearly and in a friendly, helpful way with customers and teammates.
- Ability to stay organized and keep pace in a busy coffee shop environment.
- Less than a high school diploma or equivalent is accepted.
- Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift.
- Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, point-of-sale transactions, and cleaning and sanitation duties.
- Complete a pre-employment drug screen successfully.
Nice To Haves
- Up to six months of similar or related work experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly and provide outstanding customer service.
- Take orders at the counter and over the phone, help customers find products, and answer questions.
- Prepare and replenish coffee shop products as needed.
- Monitor product freshness and appearance, and follow or develop a production list to meet daily needs.
- Handle food safely and keep the work area clean, neat, and up to department standards.
- Check in and put away product, and review invoices as needed.
- Operate the department register and process payments where applicable.
- Remove trash promptly and maintain a tidy department.
- Work with teammates to provide a smooth, positive customer experience.
- Follow Hy-Vee’s dress code, hygiene standards, and company policies.
- Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed.
