About The Position

The Coffee Lead helps keep Hy-Vee’s Coffee Shop running smoothly, supports the Department Manager, and leads the barista team. The role focuses on providing customers with fresh, high-quality products and a warm experience in a fast-paced coffee shop environment. The Coffee Lead receives direction and support from the Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home, the Food Service Director, and the Coffee Shop Department Manager. The position is accountable to those same roles and directly supervises Coffee Shop Baristas.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to deliver outstanding customer service and motivate a team to do the same.
• Ability to solve practical problems and make sound decisions involving a variety of variables.
• Basic math skills, including fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• Ability to guide and support team members with clear direction and follow-through.

Nice To Haves

• Food safety or sanitation courses are encouraged.
• One year of similar or related experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide outstanding customer service, greet customers warmly, learn their names, and make each visit a positive experience.
• Take customer orders at the counter and over the phone, help customers find products, and answer questions.
• Handle food safely and keep the work area clean, neat, and up to department standards.
• Monitor product freshness and appearance, and prepare and replenish products as needed.
• Anticipate daily product needs and follow or develop a production list.
• Check in and put away products, and review invoices as needed.
• Operate the department register and process payments where applicable.
• Instruct, assign, and coordinate work for Coffee Shop Baristas.
• Order products and supplies as needed and price products for customers as necessary.
• Remove trash promptly and maintain a clean, organized department.
• Handle confidential information, including sales percentages and employee wages, with discretion.
• Follow Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and company policies.
• Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed.
