About The Position

The Coder 1 is responsible for assigning accurate CPT/HCPCS codes, ICD-10 codes, and appropriate modifiers based on medical record documentation, whether paper or electronic, for outpatient and inpatient professional encounters. The role also assists with auditing evaluation and management (E&M) services against documentation in the medical record, helps train and educate providers and staff on coding issues, and contributes significantly to coding compliance activities. The position works 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. It is part of Methodist Medical Group, the North Texas physician organization affiliated with Methodist Health System. The organization includes more than 92 ambulatory clinics, an urgent care clinic, and a virtual care service called MethodistNOW.

Requirements

A minimum of 2 years of recent experience in an outpatient primary care and surgical setting.
Must hold a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist – Physician (CCS-P) credential, with the appropriate level of experience.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree preferred, or an associate degree in Health Information Management preferred.
Surgical coding experience in Trauma, General Surgery, Orthopedics, and/or Neurosurgery preferred.
