About The Position

The Coder assigns accurate ICD-CM/PCS and CPT/HCPCS codes to pertinent diagnoses and procedures for introductory and other moderate-complexity coding assignments. The role follows coding guidelines and abstracts required information for statistical and reimbursement purposes. The Coder works closely with revenue cycle team members to support appropriate billing and reimbursement.

Candidates in Illinois or Michigan with professional coding experience are encouraged to apply. Training will be discussed during the interview. The position is fully remote near an OSF location.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Completion of an AAPC- or AHIMA-approved coding certificate program and one of the following certifications: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CCA, CPC, CPC-A, or CPC-H; alternatively, RHIA/RHIT eligibility with certification obtained within one year of hire.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Completed medical coding courses focused on ICD-CM/PCS and CPT coding guidelines.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes, medical records, and hospital procedures.
• Ability to concentrate on tasks over time without distraction.
• Basic keyboarding and software application skills.
• Ability to communicate information to supervisors, coworkers, and physicians by telephone, in writing, by email, or in person.

Nice To Haves

• One year of professional or hospital coding experience.
