As a Coder, you ensure accurate communication with insurance companies so services are documented correctly and payments are processed efficiently. You translate patients’ medical records into standardized codes for diagnoses and treatments, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, payer-specific, and organizational standards. The role requires accuracy, attention to detail, knowledge of coding standards and healthcare regulations, clear communication with providers and staff, and efficient records management so claims are processed correctly and on time. You apply coding principles consistent with government regulatory standards, payer-specific guidelines, and company policy. You code complex office, surgical, and hospital professional charges for assigned providers; review ICD, E&M, CPT, and HCPCS codes to verify documentation supports the services rendered; query providers when medical-record documentation is unclear or missing; and provide coding and documentation education to physicians and providers as needed. You also assist clinic and other department staff with coding questions for assigned providers.
