About The Position

Lakewood Health System is hiring a Coder for its Business Office Team. The role ensures accurate and compliant coding of outpatient encounters to maximize reimbursement and support the organization’s operational and financial excellence. This is a full-time, 80-hour (1.0 FTE) remote position with occasional in-office duties. Candidates must be located in Minnesota.

Requirements

• RHIA, RHIT, CCS-P, CPC, or CCA credential.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially via email and phone.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and work with strong attention to detail.
• Problem-solving skills and ability to navigate coding challenges independently.

Nice To Haves

• Medical Secretary degree or equivalent training.
• Experience with Epic and Encoder software.

Responsibilities

• Code ambulatory and outpatient encounters to the highest level of specificity using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS for professional and facility charges.
• Ensure coding is accurate and compliant with current payer requirements, including CMS regulations.
• Review patient documentation and encounters to determine appropriate codes and billing details.
• Address coding-related issues, including denials, claims edits, and clearinghouse rejections.
• Maintain current and organized coding work queues and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with billing, revenue integrity, patient financial services (PFS), PET, providers, nursing, registration, laboratory, radiology, and ancillary departments.
• Research payer guidelines and insurance requirements relevant to assigned duties.
• Use Epic and Encoder to complete coding tasks.
• Stay current on coding guidelines, updates, and system changes relevant to daily work.
