About The Position

The Coder 1 is responsible for assigning accurate CPT/HCPCS and ICD-10 codes, along with appropriate modifiers, based on paper or electronic medical record documentation for outpatient and inpatient professional encounters. The role also assists with auditing evaluation and management (E&M) services against medical record documentation, trains and educates providers and staff on coding issues, and contributes significantly to coding compliance activities. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The position is with Methodist Medical Group, the North Texas physician organization affiliated with Methodist Health System. Methodist Medical Group includes more than 92 ambulatory clinics, an urgent care clinic, and a virtual care service called MethodistNOW.

Requirements

A minimum of 2 years of recent experience in an outpatient setting, including primary care and surgical settings.
Must hold a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist – Physician (CCS-P) credential, with the appropriate level of experience.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree preferred, or an associate degree in Health Information Management preferred.
Surgical coding experience in Trauma, General Surgery, Orthopedics, and/or Neurosurgery preferred.
