Code & Structural Welder

Wood Group•Fort Lauderdale, FL

About The Position

Selects pipe or other related materials and equipment according to specifications. Plans layouts, assembly, and welding, applying knowledge of geometry, metal properties, machining, weld shrinkage, and welding techniques. Uses applicable welding processes, including Gas-Metal Arc, Flux-Cored Arc, Gas-Tungsten Arc, Submerged Arc, or Shielded Metal Arc. Lays out, positions, aligns, and fits components together in various body positions, and bolts, clamps, or welds metal components such as piping systems, plate, pipe, tube, and structural shapes. Welding may be performed in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions, and assemblies may be tack welded. Connects welding-unit cables to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse as specified by the procedure or supervisor, and selects and loads electrodes or consumable electrode wire. Assembles fabricated, cast, and forged components into structural forms according to blueprints and metallurgy.

Requirements

  • Capable of certifying on multi-process pipe.
  • Proficient in SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW welding processes.
  • Capable of producing welds that meet NDE (non-destructive examination) requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Select pipe, materials, and equipment according to specifications.
  • Plan layouts, assembly, and welding based on geometry, metal properties, machining, weld shrinkage, and welding techniques.
  • Lay out, position, align, and fit components together in various body positions.
  • Bolt, clamp, tack weld, and weld metal components, including piping systems, plate, pipe, tube, and structural shapes.
  • Perform welding in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions using applicable arc and gas welding equipment and processes.
  • Set welding-unit amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse according to the procedure or supervisor's instructions; select and load the specified electrode or consumable electrode wire.
  • Lay out, align, and weld fabricated, cast, and forged components to assemble structural forms such as machinery frames, tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, buildings, and pipe, according to blueprints and metallurgy.
