Code & Structural Welder

Wood•Fort Lauderdale, FL

About The Position

The Code & Structural Welder selects pipe and related materials and equipment according to specifications, then plans layouts, assembly, and welding based on knowledge of metal properties, machining, weld shrinkage, geometry, and welding techniques. The role lays out, positions, aligns, fits, bolts, clamps, tack welds, and welds components to assemble piping systems and structural forms. Work may involve flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions and processes such as Gas-Metal Arc, Flux-Cored Arc, Gas-Tungsten Arc, Submerged Arc, and Shielded Metal Arc welding. The welder sets welding-unit parameters as specified by procedure or a supervisor and selects and loads the specified electrode or consumable wire. The position assembles fabricated, cast, and forged components into structures such as machinery frames, tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, buildings, and pipe, following blueprints and metallurgy. The welder must be capable of qualifying on multi-process pipe and producing welds that meet nondestructive examination requirements.
