About The Position

Smith Industries, LLC is seeking an experienced Code Vessel Welder to join its production team in Midland, Texas. The role is suited to a skilled welder who prioritizes safety, quality workmanship, and teamwork and can follow ASME code standards and fabrication specifications. The welder performs vessel and component fabrication and repairs, prepares parts for welding and installation, and verifies work against specifications and inspection requirements. The position requires safe operation of welding and thermal-cutting equipment, adherence to safety regulations, and appropriate use of PPE.

Requirements

• Must be able to pass a 6G Code Welding Test.
• Proven experience welding vessels to code.
• Ability to read and build vessels from detailed print layouts.
• Strong knowledge of AWS, API, ANSI, and ASME codes and standards.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify defects and non-conformance issues.
• Commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Weld vessels and related components in accordance with ASME Section VIII, AWS, API, ANSI, and other applicable industry codes.
• Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, isometric drawings, and fabrication layouts.
• Lay out, fit, and fabricate vessel components and pipe in preparation for welding and installation.
• Examine welds and workpieces for defects and verify conformance to specifications using measuring tools.
• Repair defects and discontinuities identified during visual, UT, or X-ray inspection.
• Repair vessels or tanks that fail inspection.
• Operate welding equipment and related fabrication tools safely and efficiently.
• Use thermal-cutting equipment, including oxy-fuel torches and plasma arc equipment.
• Safely connect hoses and regulators for oxygen and fuel gas systems.
• Climb ladders and work from scaffolds when required.
• Immediately report discrepancies and safety concerns to the shop foreman.
• Comply with safety regulations and use PPE properly.
