About The Position

Coach Across America is a national nonprofit organization founded in 2010 that leverages the power of coaches to transform the lives of vulnerable youth and their communities through sports. The organization operates on the principle that well-trained coaches can significantly impact young people's lives, fostering success both on and off the field. Coach Across America collaborates with local nonprofits, schools, and sports organizations to support and train AmeriCorps coaches for a one-year service term in underserved communities. These coaches receive Sports-Based Youth Development training, focusing on Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) skills to help youth achieve their full potential. This role involves serving as a youth sports coach and mentor for a one-year AmeriCorps service term, supporting sports programs, clinics, and play at various partner sites throughout Los Angeles County.

Requirements

  • Passion for youth development and mentoring
  • Culturally competent with the ability to work with a diverse group of youth (ethnicity and backgrounds)
  • Positive, can-do attitude, good work ethic, and the ability to take on new challenges
  • Team player
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • AmeriCorps is open to U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent residents
  • Must have, or be working towards a High School diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Successful completion of criminal history background checks
  • Reliable personal transportation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs and Google Suite

Responsibilities

  • Implement and run practices (Specific sport is dependent on the host site)
  • Assist with set-up, break-down, and any other coaching assignments during game days.
  • Create & implement comprehensive curriculum-based activities for the grades assigned
  • Serve with a flexible mindset and pivot with schedule, rotation, location, assignment, or programmatic changes to meet the needs of the organization and its members
  • Conduct enrichment programs for members and regularly recognize members’ successes
  • Engage in meaningful and supportive relationships with members
  • Prepared to support members in their academic needs through homework help, tutoring, and partnering with parents and/or teachers
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment
  • Input program attendance
  • Arrive on time and adhere to dress code
  • Participate in required trainings
  • Mentor groups of members as it pertains to our mentoring program and grant requirements
  • Possible Occasional weekend work (site-dependent)
  • Represent both Coach Across America and your host site both during and outside of work hours in a manner that upholds the mission and values of the organizations.
  • Commit to completion of the minimum required hours of service and training by the last day of the coach contract
  • Completion of bi-weekly timesheets
  • Attend/participate in Coach Across America orientation, trainings, meetings, service days, and special initiatives
  • Must wear Coach Across America branded t-shirts with AmeriCorps logo when coaching and at program sessions and events

Benefits

  • Living Allowance/Stipend: Varies by coach slot type. Minimum $12,150.00.
  • Education Award: Varies by coach slot type. Minimum $3,697.50
  • Health Insurance is offered to Full-time coach slot types only.
