About The Position

The City of Victoria is hiring a Co‑op Student to support the planning, design, and delivery of water, sanitary, and storm infrastructure projects. In this role, you’ll work with teams that connect field data, engineering design, and long-term capital planning, and gain exposure to how essential water systems are managed and improved across the City. This position offers a blend of office and field experience, with opportunities to support infrastructure investigations, review system data, and contribute to projects at various stages - from early planning through to design and construction. It’s a great fit for someone interested in municipal engineering who enjoys working with both technical information and real-world infrastructure, and wants to understand how integrated water systems are developed and maintained. As a student hired under the Co-operative Educational Training Program, you will be given meaningful and challenging assignments while being introduced to a career in municipal government. In this Co-op position you will assist with supernumerary projects and contribute to the overall goals of the work unit.

Requirements

  • High School.
  • Enrolled in a recognized Co-operative Education Program at a Canadian Post-Secondary Institution.
  • Currently attending full-time education and returning to full-time studies in the subsequent academic year.
  • In good standing in an Undergraduate Degree Program or Technical School Diploma Program.
  • Organize and prioritize work.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Understand and carry out job related instructions.
  • Ability to learn quickly and independently.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Working level knowledge of current City word processing, spreadsheet, and related specialty software including social media tools.
  • Maintain accurate records with attention to detail.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the on-going enhancement of the City’s operations by utilizing existing tools and software platforms.
  • Participate in the development and improvement of future-focussed projects that align with the department’s strategic goals and objectives by providing supernumerary field or office support.
  • Conduct and document research, analyze and interpret data, prepare summary of findings, draft reports, procedures and/or practices, and present to supervisor for feedback and/or next steps.
  • Assist with identifying and testing new and/or enhanced tools and processes and collaborate to ensure ‘shared learning’.
