About The Position

In the role of Facilities Engineer based out of Oshawa Assembly Plant, you will plan, procure, manage, install, and validate capital and operating projects that support the site’s buildings, utilities, and infrastructure. Project scope will range from asset lifecycle replacements and reliability improvements to new systems and layouts, with a strong focus on safety, compliance, cost, energy, and schedule. You will also lead and support continuous improvement initiatives related to facility and utility systems in your assigned area, and provide technical troubleshooting support for issues impacting building services and production operations.

Requirements

  • Pursuit of a Bachelor's (3rd or 4th year) in one of the following areas: Engineering(Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, Mechatronics, Controls).
  • Eligible to work full-time (40 hours per week) in Canada and for 8, or 12 month terms (consecutive semesters) starting September 2026
  • Willing to work in a plant environment and flexible working hours (shift work, weekends, and overtime to meet business needs)
  • NOTE - YOU MUST BE ENROLLED IN A CO-OP OR INTERNSHIP PROGRAM AND MEET THE PROGRAM’S ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior manufacturing experience, knowledge of production environments, and in automotive industry are considered assets

Responsibilities

  • Develop and sustain a proactive safety culture by engaging team members, contractors, and peers in safety processes and standards.
  • Ensure safe and compliant operation of facilities and utility systems (e.g., HVAC, compressed air, steam, water, lighting, power distribution, building envelope) in accordance with GM standards and applicable regulations.
  • Apply and effectively use the Global Manufacturing System (GMS) and Facilities/Utilities standards to drive stability and continuous improvement.
  • Respond to Facilities/Production needs and requests for continuous improvement (CI) related to building systems, utilities, and workplace infrastructure.
  • Plan and execute capital and expense projects: develop scopes, estimates, schedules, and risk assessments; prepare requisitions; coordinate contractors; and validate installation and performance.
  • Participate in weekend and shutdown work planning to safely execute facilities projects, inspections, and preventive maintenance with minimal impact to production.
  • Review and act on safety-significant events, safety messages, and audit findings, ensuring timely closure of corrective actions.
  • Maintain required compliance training (e.g., Hot Work, Confined Space, First Aid/CPR, Rigging, Electrical Safe Work Practices) and ensure contractors adhere to site requirements.
  • Identify and implement waste elimination opportunities in the areas of energy, water, reliability, uptime, quality, and maintenance cost.
  • Support GMS and Facilities standards including Maintenance Level 4/5 Boards, Business Plan Deployment, Workplace Organization (5S) and visual management.
  • Report and investigate near misses and incidents, driving systemic improvements to prevent recurrence.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with Environmental, Powerhouse/Utilities, Manufacturing Engineering, Production, and EHS to align facility plans with site objectives.
