About The Position

The Canmore Nordic Centre (CNC) is seeking seasonal Snowmaking Specialist positions for the winter season, which runs from approximately early November 2026 to mid-January 2027. These positions primarily involve outdoor work and include evening, night, and weekend shifts with shift premium pay. All positions are contract terms. The role supports the trail snowmaking programs, providing exceptional Nordic ski experiences to visitors and athletes within Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park. Provincial Parks are essential to the quality of life that Albertans enjoy, conserving natural landscapes and offering nature-based outdoor recreational opportunities.

Requirements

  • Some high school education.
  • Adherence to all pertinent policies, procedures, and protocols, including Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) and following Government of Alberta guidelines.
  • Mechanical aptitude and equipment operating experience including the ability to troubleshoot equipment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in the winter for long periods of time.
  • Ability to support and work with other team members within the Kananaskis Region and at Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park.
  • Good judgment and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift 25 kilograms.
  • Recognized Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level “C”/AED Certification (must be maintained as current for the entire period of hire by the employee).
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent and clear 3-year Driver’s Abstract.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and knowledge with snowmaking operations, operating snowmobiles, ATVs, tractors or agricultural equipment.
  • Good mechanical and troubleshooting skills to identify mechanical or operational issues.
  • Well-developed oral and written English skills to effectively communicate with the general public to answer inquiries.
  • Familiarity with Nordic skiing (Classic, Biathlon, Skate).
  • Familiarity with Kananaskis Region and surrounding area.

Responsibilities

  • Safe operation and maintenance of snowmaking fan guns and air/water guns, pumps, compressors, valves, hoses and tools.
  • Operate side-by-sides, snow machines, ATVs, trucks, and mobile machinery.
  • Assist with trail packing, grooming, and track setting.
  • General labour or other duties.
  • Respond to public inquiries and address any safety concerns.
  • Interact with the public in a professional manner and create a positive visitor experience.
  • Lead and participate in emergency and evacuation protocols to provide support to visitors and staff in emergency situations.

Benefits

  • 11.6% in lieu of benefits and vacation leave
  • 5.6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays.
  • 6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay.
  • Shift premium pay: $3.25 per hour for weekends, $2.75 per hour for evenings, $5.00 per hour for nights.
  • Training will be provided to successful candidates.
