About The Position

Schafer Industries is seeking a CNC Shape Machinist for its Schafer Gear Works operation in Roscoe, Illinois. This role involves setting up and operating conventional, special purpose, and computer numerical control (CNC) machines to fabricate metallic and non-metallic parts. The machinist will be responsible for solving machine and part problems, maintaining a high productivity rate, and continuously striving for improvement. The company offers a $1,000 sign-on bonus and walk-in interviews.

Requirements

Two plus years of experience ideal.
Must be able to communicate in English.
Ability to use a computer.
Physical ability and stamina to perform essential functions, including walking, standing, lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing, kneeling, bending, stooping, reaching, and twisting for extended periods on hard surfaces.

Responsibilities

Operate assigned machinery to fabricate parts to required specifications by reading work orders and specification sheets, powering up and down the machine, setting up and operating gear shaping machines to machine splines or gear teeth, loading and unloading parts, ensuring proper tooling, creating and sizing jaws, changing chucking devices, recognizing insert and tool geometry, and making offset adjustments for size.
Ensure all parts meet required specifications by maintaining and improving quality, reading blueprints and other documentation, verifying finished work piece specifications, complying with work instructions, following ISO and Schafer procedures, and completing quality certification requirements.
Ensure operational effectiveness of assigned equipment by conducting preventative maintenance, observing machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusting controls, and conferring with engineers and production personnel to resolve machining problems.
Support the Schafer Business Process by maintaining and improving productivity, measuring and marking dimensions, evaluating tool life and new tooling, reducing machine setup downtime, and maintaining the 6S program.
Contribute to overall company effectiveness by channeling problems to the appropriate person, supporting Schafer policies, reporting issues to supervisors, providing input for quality improvements, resolving problems, performing other job-related duties, evaluating job applicants, passing along information for subsequent shifts, and training new personnel.
