  • Basic math skills, including fractions, decimals, and geometric calculations.
  • Knowledge of safe material-handling practices.
  • Ability to stand and walk on concrete floors for the duration of an 8–10 hour shift.
  • Ability to frequently lift, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds; team lifting is required for heavier loads.
  • Ability to occasionally bend, kneel, and reach to load or unload equipment and perform maintenance.
  • Ability to work around metalworking fluids, cutting coolant, metal chips, and noise levels requiring hearing protection.
  • Ability to wear required PPE throughout the shift.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate Amada CNC band saws, including HFA and PCSAW series, and related cutting equipment.
  • Load and interpret cut programs and enter parameters such as feed rate, blade speed, and cutting angles.
  • Secure material with clamps, vises, and fixtures, and adjust stops and length gauges.
  • Adjust saw angles for miter and compound cuts as required.
  • Monitor cutting operations for blade wear, deflection, and quality deviations, making real-time corrections.
  • Read work orders, blueprints, cut lists, and job travelers to determine cutting specifications.
  • Identify and stage raw materials, including solid bar, hollow bar, tube, pipe, angle iron, flat bar, and structural sections.
  • Use overhead cranes, forklifts, or other material-handling equipment to load and unload stock.
  • Bundle, tag, and stage cut parts according to job and route-card requirements.
  • Minimize material waste through efficient nesting and cut sequencing.
  • Measure parts with calipers, tape measures, squares, and angle finders to verify dimensional accuracy.
  • Inspect cut surfaces for burrs, squareness, and finish, and remove sharp edges as required.
  • Complete first-article and in-process inspection documentation.
  • Identify and quarantine non-conforming material and communicate defects to a supervisor.
  • Perform pre-operation checks of blade tension, guide bearings, coolant level, and hydraulic fluid.
  • Change saw blades, clean coolant tanks, and clear chip conveyors according to the preventive maintenance schedule.
  • Log machine hours and maintenance activities in the maintenance tracking system.
  • Keep the work area clean, sweep chips, and dispose of coolant waste according to environmental guidelines.
  • Follow company safety policies, OSHA standards, and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, and cut-resistant gloves.
