CNC Programmer/CAD Detailer (Trade Shows & Events)
About The Position
Jack Morton is seeking a CNC Programmer/CAD Detailer to bridge design and fabrication for custom exhibits, trade shows, and experiential environments. The role develops detailed drawings, prepares CNC-ready files, and helps turn creative concepts into precise, buildable solutions. It combines CAD skills with a practical understanding of fabrication and involves close collaboration with Designers, Project Managers, Detailers, Fabricators, and shop-floor teams. The successful candidate will translate creative ideas into accurate drawings, efficient CNC programs, and fabrication-ready components, supporting projects from detailing and programming through cutting, assembly, transportation, and installation. The work includes troubleshooting technical issues, maintaining libraries and standards, improving production efficiency, and supporting fast-turn projects while balancing accuracy, deadlines, and changing priorities.
Requirements
- Experience in CAD detailing, CNC programming, or a combination of both within exhibit fabrication, millwork, cabinetry, manufacturing, scenic production, or a related environment.
- Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD 2D.
- Hands-on experience creating, editing, or troubleshooting CNC programs and machine-ready files.
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM software such as Mastercam, EnRoute, Fusion, Cabinet Vision, or similar platforms.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, dimensions, materials, and fabrication specifications.
- Understanding of how designs translate into cutting, assembly, and finished components.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to collaborate with production teams and communicate technical information clearly.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
Nice To Haves
- 3D CAD experience.
- A proactive interest in improving processes, standardizing programs, and increasing fabrication efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain 2D and 3D CAD drawings, including plans, elevations, assembly details, and fabrication drawings.
- Translate creative concepts into buildable designs with dimensions, materials, finishes, hardware, and specifications.
- Create, edit, and optimize CNC programs and machine-ready files for fabrication.
- Prepare components and drawings for CNC cutting, assembly, transportation, and installation.
- Collaborate with Designers, Detailers, Project Managers, and shop-floor teams to resolve technical challenges.
- Verify drawings and CNC files for accuracy, feasibility, and efficient material use.
- Troubleshoot programming or detailing issues and make adjustments to improve production quality and turnaround.
- Maintain CAD libraries, CNC programs, templates, and standardized components.
- Identify opportunities to improve programming practices, detailing standards, shop efficiency, and consistency.
- Support fast-turn projects while balancing accuracy, deadlines, and changing priorities.
